O’MORE COLLEGE & PUBLIC LIBRARY ANNOUNCE LECTURE SERIES

“A Foreign Exchange” to Focus on Design in America and Abroad

O’More College of Design and the Williamson County Public Library have again partnered in producing a free lecture series offering a diverse group of speakers and focusing generally on the different ways that world cultures are reflected in 21st-century design.

“A Foreign Exchange: Examining the Role of Global Perspectives in American Culture,” which began last fall, will feature three speakers this spring. The lectures will be held March 13, March 15 and April 3 at the Williamson County Public Library at 1314 Columbia Ave. in Franklin.

“As a college, we are constantly examining ways to offer cultural and educational opportunities to our students outside of the classroom, and with the group of speakers we have assembled, it made good sense as a community-wide program,” said Barbara Blumin, chair of the interior design department at O’More College of Design and one of the organizers of the lecture series.

On Monday, March 13, at 6:30 p.m., Shirley Horowitz, president and owner of Davishire Interiors, will discuss her experiences through more than 29 years in residential and commercial design. Her work has been featured in regional magazines, such as Southern Accents, and on 15 episodes of the HGTV show “Decorating with Style.” Horowitz has also been selected to design the interiors for the restoration of Tennessee’s Governor’s Mansion, The Executive Residence.

On Wednesday, March 15, at 4:30 p.m., Bruce Brigham will share insights learned through a career of retail, restaurant, and entertainment design projects, working with clients such as Cartier Internationale, Office Depot, Miller Brewing Company, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Royal Palm Trading Company. Prior to his career in the

commercial sector, he designed and built custom homes. Recently, he has returned to his residential design roots, launching Playa Design Studios. He lives with his wife and two cats on the beachfront of Nayarit, Mexico. This seminar is sponsored by the O’More Student Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers.

On Monday, April 3, at 6:30 p.m., Kem Hinton, a founding partner of Nashville’s Tuck-Hinton Architects, will discuss the European influences he now incorporates into his design work. Hinton studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris before returning to Tennessee to practice. His work has seen national acclaim in publications such as Progressive Architecture, and his selection as lead designer for the Tennessee Bicentennial Capitol Mall in Nashville led him to publish a hardback book titled A Long Path: The Search for a Bicentennial Landmark to document the experience.
