  • When: Saturday, November 5, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Where: O'More College of Design, Fashion Design Studio, downtown Franklin campus
  • Details: You'll create a garment or accessory using non-traditional materials, any combination of recycled goods, and learn more about a career in the fashion design industry.
  • Cost:  FREE.  And, lunch will be provided.

Sure, we want to talk to you about a career in fashion design,
but what we really want to do is create with you.

What you’ll get to do: Create a garment or accessory using non-traditional materials.

Your assignment: Using any recycled goods from the list given, create a garment or major accessory. Think of ways to manipulate the materials into a new form. You can twist, cut, fold, bend, and crinkle the materials so that they are unrecognizable from their original form. Assemble them into a wearable garment using thread, tape, glue, or other constructing methods. Use your imagination to create a unique design that we’ve never seen before.

Collect and bring to the workshop a large quantity of one of the recyclable materials noted below.

Worn household textiles: sheets, towels, curtains, tablecloths, napkins, placemats, shower curtains

Kitchen products: trash bin liners, coffee filters, paper or plastic plates and bowls, paper napkins, plastic eating utensils, paper or plastic cups, paper or plastic grocery bags, plastic food containers and lids, aluminum foil, plastic milk jugs, plastic jar and bottle caps, soft drink can pull tabs, plastic or paper straws, paper towel tubes, cupcake liners

Office products: rubber bands, paper clips, paper fasteners, wrapping paper, poster board, construction paper, Christmas cards, ribbon

Left-over sewing or craft supplies: lace, ribbon, ric-rac, glitter, pipe cleaners, pom-poms, yarn, bias tape, beads, scrapbook paper, buttons, fabric scraps, zippers, jewelry findings

Garden supplies: rope, string, chain, gloves, duct tape, flower catalogs, seed packets, wire, erosion cloth

O'More will provide all other supplies needed to design and construct your garment or accessory.
