The Sensory Teaching and Learning Center
The Teaching and Learning Center is located in Fleming-Farrar Hall in a beautiful 19th century home on the O'More College of Design campus in Franklin, Tennessee. The center consists of two parts: the McAfee Library and the Hilliard Institute for Educational Wellness. The McAfee Library was created through a gift from Carolyn T. McAfee, James T. McAfee III, and Julie McAfee, and it serves as a memorial to James T. McAfee, Jr. The Hilliard Institute for Educational Wellness was established from a grant and gifts from the friends and family of Jack and Lola Hilliard, parents of President Mark Hilliard, and Frances Hilliard McAfee, mother of James T. McAfee Jr.
The McAfee Library is intended as the center for study and research for O'More College students by providing reference materials, study areas, a computer lab, dozens of periodicals, and an expanding collection of books and resources. In 2008, our collection was further enhanced by a partnership with the Williamson County Public Library system, which allows our students access to the county's collection and services.
The Hilliard Institute for Educational Wellness works to help teachers incorporate wholistic approaches of teaching and learning into their pedagogical methodologies through information and training on the best practices and access to materials and resources. The institute oversees O'More's teacher mentoring program, linking master teachers with faculty in order to expand teaching and learning styles and learning assessment. Finally, the Hilliard Institute works with students to enable them to better understand how they learn as individuals and to find tutorial aid when necessary.
The Sensory Teaching and Learning Center is a resource available to the O'More community; please take advantage of it as it grows and develops. The McAfee Librarian is Allison Crawford, and the Director of the Teaching and Learning Center is Professor Jessa Sexton.
