The Sensory Teaching and Learning Center
The Teaching and Learning Center is located in Fleming-Farrar Hall in a beautiful 19th century home on the O'More College of Design campus in Franklin, Tennessee. The center consists of two parts: the McAfee Library and the Hilliard Institute for Educational Wellness. The McAfee Library was created through a gift from Caroline T. McAfee, James T. McAfee III, and Julie McAfee, and it serves as a memorial to James T. McAfee, Jr. The Hilliard Institute for Educational Wellness was established from a grant and gifts from the friends and family of Jack and Lola Hilliard and Frances Hilliard McAfee.
The McAfee Library is intended as the center of study and research for O'More College students by providing reference materials, study areas, a computer lab, dozens of periodicals, and an expanding collection of books and resources. In 2008, our collection was further enhanced by a partnership with the Williamson County Public Library system, which allows our students access to the county's collection and services.
The Hilliard Institute of Educational Wellness works to help teachers incorporate wholistic approaches of teaching and learning into their pedagogical methodologies through information and training on the best practices and access to materials and resources. The institute will oversee O'More's teacher mentoring program, linking master teachers with faculty in order to expand teaching and learning styles and learning assessment. Finally, the Hilliard Institute will work with students to enable them to better understand how they learn as individuals and to find tutorial aid when necessary.
The Sensory Teaching and Learning Center is a resource available to the O'More community; please take advantage of it as it grows and develops. The new McAfee Librarian is Allison Crawford, and the Director of the Teaching and Learning Center is Mark Bridges. Please contact either Allison or Mark regarding the library or the institute, or for any related needs or concerns you may have.
