Altered Books
Instructor: Susan DeGarmo
Sessions 1 and 4

Recycle old books and make works of art out of them. How “green” can you be? Learn different techniques using packaging tape, glazes, bleaching, stamping, and metal tape, to name a few. Create E-Z pop-ups, doors, windows, pull-tabs, and photo transfers, as well as a “3-D Book” by using a paperback. Students use their own personal style to customize their work of art. Basic Illustration for Fashion I
Instructor: Anita White
Session 1

Students learn the basic techniques for fashion illustration using croquis as a base from which to draw, as well as proportion, sketching, shading, and general techniques for applying garments to drawings. Projects 
entail the completion of basic fashion illustrations and using pictures pulled from magazines to draw freehand.

Basic Illustration for Fashion II

Session 3

Students further develop illustration for fashion techniques while learning how to draw fabric textures, flow, and other aspects of fabric life. Projects entail using a single form croquis that has movement in its stance and designing a line of garments that utilizes the fabric life technique in a paper doll theme.

Digital Design with Adobe Photoshop
Instructor: Josh Lomelino, Session 2
Instructor: Michael Johnson, Session 3

This course teaches methodologies of modern art-making with Adobe Photoshop as a tool. Topics include visual and abstract thinking, rapid idea generation, creative problem solving, and dynamic group creative sessions. Students develop real-world and conceptual artwork utilizing art fundamentals to their fullest degree on a digital canvas. They exhibit an intermediate-level use of Photoshop, digitally mask, color correct, draw and paint using selections, fills, filters, and plug-ins, and appropriately choose between raster and vector images. The final project is a digital self-portrait painting.
**NOTE: Students need their own laptop, mouse, and Adobe Photoshop (30-day free trial version for download at www.adobe.com).

Drawing & Painting Workshop (closed)
Instructor: Sorrel Dugan
Sessions 1 and 4

Great paintings begin as great drawings. In this workshop, students explore drawing and painting from realism to non-objective works. They capture the likeness of a still life by learning how to see and draw details. Then, students take their images and express themselves through color and design.

Expressing Yourself (Literally!) Sculpture
Instructor: Laura Saylor
Sessions 2 and 3

Students use plaster gauze to create a personal relief mask. They cover their face with plaster, leaving room to breathe of course, to make an expressive mask! Then, students use the mask and other media to portray aspects of their personality. The finished piece is a reflective sculpture of each individual.

Fashion Jewelry Design
Instructor: Rebecca Davis
Sessions 2 and 3

Explore jewelry design while imagining a personal jewelry line. Develop a brand and make a look book of custom design sketches. Learn the basics of jewelry techniques and take those ideas to the next level by creating handmade jewelry pieces. In addition, students receive resources about supply sources, materials, tips, and tricks that will bring all designs to life.

Fashion Trendsetting
Instructor: Anita White
Session 4

Students look at a bit of the past and present, and use that knowledge to predict the next big trend. In addition, students design a line of garments in the style that they are most interested in designing, either based on their predicted trend or otherwise. Then, students turn it around and design the total opposite of that idea. Projects include a trend board of the next big predicted fashion idea, as well as the extension of its opposite.

Gaming Design & Development
Instructor: Josh Lomelino, Session 1
Instructor: Michael Johnson, Session 4

This course teaches students modern electronic game development processes and provides them with hands-on experience with digital game development techniques. The skills learned in this course expose students to the inner-workings of game production. Students learn sophisticated techniques in order to create real-time 3D game environments. Through hands-on learning, students gain exposure to the tools and processes used in game production.

Magic Books & Paper Toys
Instructor: Susan DeGarmo
Session 2

Learn how to make E-Z pop-ups, pocket movies, jogged pamplets, snake books, spinners (as seen in the movie Sleepy Hollow), strip animation, and the criss-cross magic wallet to name a few. Students make their own stamps to use on their paper creations, as they explore creative paper possibilities.

Mixed Media & Collage Workshop

Sessions 2 and 3

Creating spectacular artwork may reach beyond pencil and paint. Learn how to make layered treasures with collage of fabric, magazines, wire, photographs, buttons, and old jewelry. The possibilities are endless!

Print Practically Anything!
Instructor: Susan DeGarmo
Session 3

Screen, leaf, block, and potato printing galore, not to mention iron-on transfers and stencil art to learn to print like a pro. Using these techniques, students print their own note cards, t-shirt, jeans, ties, scarves, and totes. The sky is the limit, and yes, Mom, it’s permanent!

Recycled Jewelry Design

Sessions 1 and 4

Recycling is fun! Environmentally friendly jewelry is cool, and it helps to reduce our impact on the environment. Use creativity to recycle objects into new jewelry. Learn jewelry techniques and tricks to assemble personalized jewelry pieces. Share ideas, discuss different materials, and let’s do our part to save the planet.

Soda Can Art
Instructor: Laura Saylor
Sessions 1 and 4

Students use aluminum soda cans to make fun creations, like bugs and insects! Re-using materials that surround them every day, like wire and soda cans, students gain an understanding of the medium as they create a 3-D sculpture. View sample artwork here.

Storyboard Presentation for Fashion Design
Instructor: Anita White
Session 2

Students learn how to use an inspirational image and pull out colors, shapes, and more to utilize in a fashion illustration. They use these items to complete a “storyboard” along with fabric swatches and illustrations of garments. One professionally completed storyboard, as stated above, is completed at the close of this course.
