Getting Aid Credited to Student Accounts

The funding you receive to pay for your education gets to your account in various ways. Institutional assistance is applied to your account by the school and is in place before classes begin.

Federal and state grants are applied to your account by the school when the school receives the funds from these governmental agencies and may not be in place for several weeks into each semester.

Student and parent loans (Stafford and PLUS) are applied to your account by the school when the lenders disburse the funds. The loan process begins with the school notifying the student of the loan(s) and amount(s) available. The student or parent then chooses a lender and provides the lender with application information. This step includes providing personal information, completing counseling for first-time borrowers, and signing a "promise to pay." Finally, the school certifies the loan and disbursement follows. Loans for first-time students are not distributed until 30 days after classes begin in their first year.

Parents
By clicking on the following link, you will be able to apply for a Parent PLUS loan on behalf of the student. The funds will be applied to the student's account and any refund will be sent directly to the parent unless the Office of Student Financial Assistance is notified in writing to allow any excess funds to be refunded to the student. The Federal Parent PLUS loan is based upon your credit and the debt is in your name, not the student's name.
